USAAAH Information Architecture Strategy

Using card-sort studies to uncover user motivations and content classification

Context
USAAAH is an interactive vacation explorer specifically designed for Indian tourists wanting to visit the United States. The objectives for the information architecture of this application were:

  • Meet the diverse information requirements of a foreign tourist
  • Present a navigational structure that Indians can relate to

Problem
Information architecture for a travel application provides a massive challenge in terms of organizing and labeling content. Due to the plethora of already established categories and subcategories, the user tends to get lost in an attempt to quickly find what they need. A user-centered approach is needed to solve this IA problem to help users quickly find the information that they care most about, while still providing them with options to explore.
