Profile Management Redesign
REDESIGN OF ONE OF THE MOST COMPLEX AREAS OF SFDC USER ADMINISTRATION
Description
A profile is a collection of settings and permissions that defines what applications users with a particular profile can access, how they see the data, and what they can do within the application. Its relatively easy to understand conceptually what profiles are but inordinately difficult to use and manage them on a daily basis - especially when an organization has thousands of users with varying roles and responsibilites. The UI was fundamentally broken in many ways as it failed to scale with Salesforce.com platform's offerings and the user's mental model. As part of this design project, we wanted to redesign the entire profile management area of Salesforce.com.
Role
As the lead interaction designer for Salesforce Administration, I worked closely with the product management to create designs for the short-term and long-term vision. A card sort study was used to inform the information architecture changes. The design went through several iterations from low to high fidelity - as we finally achieved a high usability, high utility rating in the usability studies.
